W Żukowie na ukończeniu są już prace związane z projektowaniem nowego węzła komunikacyjnego. Jeszcze tego lata gmina chce ogłosić przetarg na jego budowę, ale inwestycja ma ruszyć dopiero w przyszłym roku.
– Niestety kolejowy przystanek Żukowo Wschodnie zostanie przesunięty, zapowiada burmistrz Wojciech Kankowski.
Budowa węzła integracyjnego ma na celu połączenie różnych form komunikacji na terenie gminy – pieszej, rowerowej, samochodowej i zbiorowej z nowo wybudowaną stacją Pomorskiej Kolei Metropolitalnej. Podróżny będzie mógł zostawić swój samochód lub rower na parkingu i kontynuować dalszą podróż pociągiem albo autobusem. Mieszkańcy zyskają parking na samochody osobowe oraz rowery, przystanki autobusowe a także wyznaczone miejsca na taksówki. Wykonane zostaną ścieżki rowerowe w kierunku Borkowa, Lnisk i Banina oraz chodnik na ulicy Pożarnej. Zmodernizowana zostanie ulica Dworcowa oraz ciąg pieszo-rowerowego od dworca w kierunku ulicy Armii Krajowej. Projekt węzła w Żukowie otrzymał dofinansowanie unijne w kwocie około 3,7 mln zł.
