Zmarł Günter Grass, światowej sławy pisarz
To on wprowadził Kaszubów na europejskie literackie salony. Noblista, z pochodzenia Kaszuba i Gdańszczanin Günter Grass zmarł dzisiaj rano w wieku 88 lat.
– Dzięki tej powieści o Kaszubach dowiedział się cały świat – wspomina redaktor naczelny miesięcznika Pomerania Dariusz Majkowski.
Grass był przede wszystkim światowej sławy pisarzem, ale też grafikiem i rzeźbiarzem. Urodził się w 1927 roku w Wolnym Mieście Gdańsku. Jego ojciec Wilhelm Grass był kupcem niemieckim a matka Helena z domu Knoff była Kaszubką. Dzieciństwo spędził w Gdańsku mieszkając przy ulicy Lelewela we Wrzeszczu. Sławę i światowy rozgłos przyniosła mu tak zwana trylogia gdańska, w tym najpopularniejsza pierwsza część „Blaszany Bębenek”. To historia Oskara Matzeratha – chłopca z niemiecko-kaszubskiej rodziny z Gdańska, który na znak protestu przeciwko nazistom przestaje rosnąć.
Kaszubi w 1985 roku nagrodzili pisarza najwyższym wyróżnieniem Medalem Stolema. Z tego roku też pochodzi ciekawy artykuł w Pomeranii o kaszubskich wątkach w twórczości Grassa, do którego czytania na stronach Bałtyckiej Biblioteki Cyfrowej oraz na portalu kaszubi.pl zachęca Dariusz Majkowski. Dodam, że za całokształt pracy pisarskiej Günter Grass został w 1999 roku uhonorowany Literacką Nagrodą Nobla. Od 1993 roku Grass był honorowym obywatelem Gdańska.
Günter Grass zdobył ogromne uznanie międzynarodowych środowisk kulturalnych i naukowych. Literacka Nagroda Nobla była ukoronowaniem jego ponad czterdziestoletniej pracy. To on wprowadził nas do literatury światowej – mówi dyrektor Muzeum Piśmiennictwa i Muzyki Kaszubsko – Pomorskiej w Wejherowie, Tomasz Fopke.
