W Słupi i innych rzekach rozpoczął się okres tarła ryb wędrownych
W Słupi i w innych pomorskich rzekach rozpoczął się okres tarła ryb wędrownych – łososi i troci. Gatunki te w czasie tarła zmieniają środowisko ze słonego na słodkowodne. Wędrują z morza do rzek i strumieni.
Na tarło wracają do miejsc, w których przyszły na świat lub do których zostały wpuszczone jako narybek. W odnalezieniu macierzystej rzeki pomaga im bardzo silnie rozwinięta „pamięć węchowa”. Zapamiętują zapach i smak wody, w której spędziły pierwsze lata życia.
W Słupi od lat prowadzone są działania z zakresu ochrony i wspierania naturalnego rozrodu tych królewskich ryb. Dofinansowywane są ze środków Wojewódzkiego Funduszu Ochrony Środowiska i Gospodarki Wodnej w Gdańsku. Na początku lat 80-tych XX wieku wyginęła rodzima populacja łososia. Działania mające na celu przywrócenie tego gatunku rozpoczęły się w 1985 roku.Z Łotwy i Finlandii ikrę pozyskanej od tamtejszych łososi. Z tej ikry do Słupi wypuszczono 840 młodych osobników. W okresie 1996 – 1999 wypuszczono 383 000 młodych łososi. W 2002 roku wędkarze odłowili pierwsze po 30 latach łososie atlantyckie. Ryba ta jest wpisana do Polskiej Czerwonej Księgi Zwierząt, jest zagrożona wyginięciem w skali europejskiej. (Foto: www.wfosigw.gda.pl)
