Nowoczesny i funkcjonalny, jego modernizacja kosztowała ponad 5 mln złotych – podróżni już mogą korzystać z odnowionego dworca PKP w Rumi. W budynku otwarto też siedzibę miejskiej biblioteki nazywaną „Stacją Kultura”. W ramach prac wymieniono drzwi, okna, podłogi i posadzki. Wyremontowana została elewacja budynku, a także nawierzchnia przed dworcem. Obiekt przystosowano również do potrzeb osób niepełnosprawnych. Pasażerowie do dyspozycji mają nowoczesne kasy biletowe, kiosk i lokal gastronomiczny. Ponad 80 proc. powierzchni dworca zajmie miejska „Stacja Kultury” z biblioteką. Podczas otwarcia – nowy budynek zwiedzały tłumy mieszkańców. Plan modernizacji przygotował pochodzący z Rumi projektant Jan Sikora. Efektem końcowym zachwycona jest burmistrz miasta Elżbieta Rogala-Kończak. Dotychczas na Pomorzu PKP wyremontowała dworce w Gdyni, Malborku i Lęborku. W planach jest modernizacja obiektów w Gdańsku Głównym, a w przyszłym roku zakończy się trwająca budowa nowego dworca w Sopocie.
