Kolejowa spółka podpisała umowę na dofinansowanie z Unii Europejskiej. Opiewa ona na 160 milionów złotych, pieniądze pochodzą z Programu Infrastruktura i Środowisko 2014-20.
Wartość całej inwestycji to prawie 394 mln zł. Trójmiejska SKM-ka kupi 10 nowych pociągów. Tzw. elektryczne zespoły trakcyjne będą jeździć na trasie Gdańsk Śródmieście – Lębork. Będą dostosowane do potrzeb osób mających trudności z poruszaniem. Spółka kupi też urządzenia, które pozwolą utrzymać pociągi, m.in. sprzęt do czyszczenia i podnośniki. Inwestycja ma zostać zakończona w czerwcu 2023 roku. „Nowy tabor poprawi dostępność komunikacyjną Trójmiasta – czytamy w komunikacie przesłanym do naszej redakcji. Skróci się czas podróży z Gdańska do Lęborka, co zwiększy mobilność mieszkańców i ułatwi dojazd do szkoły i pracy. Odświeżenie taboru SKM w Trójmieście to konieczność. Średni wiek jeżdżących tu kolejek to 38 lat. Zakup dziesięciu nowych pociągów umożliwi wycofanie dwudziestu najstarszych składów, których nie opłaca się już remontować.
