W Gdyni powstaną ogrody społeczne – w wyniku współpracy samorządu, organizacji pozarządowej i biznesu.
Założą je razem z miastem Gdynia: Bank Żywności w Trójmieście i firma Target, a prowadzić będą mieszkańcy dzielnic przy wsparciu ogrodnika i animatorów. Będą uprawiać warzywa, owoce, zioła. Wyprodukowaną wspólnie żywność będzie można zjeść w ogrodzie, zabrać do domu lub podzielić się nią z potrzebującymi.
Otwarte Ogrody Gdyni mają być miejscem spotkań oraz integracji przy wspólnej pracy. Pierwsze rośliny posadzono już przy ulicy Śmidowicza 49 – czyli na terenie rewitalizowanego Oksywia, gdzie ogród wzbogaci ofertę działań społecznych. Kolejne ogrody powstaną: w podwórzu Miejskiego Ośrodka Pomocy Społecznej oraz w gdyńskim centrum innowacyjności i biznesu przy Pomorskim Parku Naukowo-Technologicznym.
