Tryton superkomputer został uruchomiony na PG
Biliard obliczeń na sekundę – tyle może wykonać Tryton. Najszybszy obecnie superkomputer w Polsce został uruchomiony na Politechnice Gdańskiej.
Maszyna to tzw. klaster, czyli grupa połączonych ze sobą komputerów. Posiada ponad 2,5 tysiąca 12-rdzeniowych procesorów, co ma pozwolić na wykonywanie skomplikowanych eksperymentów w czasie rzeczywistym. Tryton jest 10 razy szybszy niż Galera – poprzedni superkomputer działający na Politechnice od 2008 roku – i plasuje się na liście 50 najpotężniejszych maszyn na świecie.
– Nowy nabytek trójmiejskiej uczelni ma znaleźć zastosowanie w trzech obszarach – mówi dr inż. Jerzy Proficz z Wydziału Elektroniki, Telekomunikacji i Informatyki PG.
Tryton jest sercem projektu CD NIWA, którego celem jest stworzenie centrum kompetencji oferującego dostęp do profesjonalnej wiedzy i usług związanych z wytwarzaniem aplikacji informatycznych dla środowiska nauki, przemysłu, a także biznesu. Naukowcy z gdańskiej uczelni szacują, że Tryton będzie efektywnie służył przez około 5, 6 lat.
