PZŻ zadedykował rok 2017 pamięci generała Zaruskiego
W tym roku przypada 150-ta rocznica jego urodzin. Zaruski to postać wszechstronna – fotografik, malarz, poeta, prozaik, ale przede wszystkim żeglarz i taternik.
Był pierwszym komandorem Yacht Klubu Polski, prezesem Polskiego Związku Żeglarskiego w latach 1932-35, współzałożycielem Ligi Morskiej i Rzecznej oraz pierwszym kapitanem „Zawiszy Czarnego”. Mariusz Zaruski był też inicjatorem powstania i pierwszym naczelnikiem Tatrzańskiego Ochotniczego Pogotowia Ratunkowego.
W marcu w Gdyni na Ogólnopolskich Spotkaniach Podróżników, Żeglarzy i Alpinistów będzie wyświetlany film i prezentacja poświęcona Zaruskiemu. Natomiast 8 kwietnia w Gdańsku odbędzie się konferencja naukowa „Generał Mariusz Zaruski – życiorys morzem pisany”. Szczegółowy program obchodów zostanie podany na stronie Żeglarskiego Portalu Informacyjnego.
Wizerunek Mariusza Zaruskiego ze sterem w ręku znalazł się na znaczkach pocztowych wydanych przez Pocztę Polską z okazji 150. rocznicy urodzin generała. Znaczki weszły już do obiegu.
