Pomnik płk Ryszarda Kuklińskiego odsłonięto na gdyńskim skwerze
Pomnik pułkownika Ryszarda Kuklińskiego odsłonięto na skwerze w centrum Gdyni. Rzeźbę sfinansował prywatny przedsiębiorca.
Pomnik odsłonięto w 76. rocznicę ataku ZSRR na Polskę. Także 17 września, tyle że 1997 roku, pułkownika Kuklińskiego uwolniono od zarzutu narodowej zdrady. „To bolesne, że na ten wyrok musiał czekać 7 lat ,a w wolnej Polsce często spotykały go nieprzyjemności i ataki” – mówił na odsłonięciu pomnika prezydent Gdyni Wojciech Szczurek. Ryszard Kukliński współpracował z CIA, w latach 1971 – 81 przekazał na Zachód 40 tysięcy stron dokumentów, dotyczących m.in. planów użycia broni nuklearnej przez ZSRR czy wprowadzenia stanu wojennego w Polsce. Przez wiele lat uznawany za zdrajcę. Gdynia, obok Krakowa i Gdańska jako jedno z pierwszych i wciąż nielicznych miast, przyczyniła się do rehabilitacji pułkownika.
Spiżowa figura przedstawiająca Ryszarda Kuklińskiego w cywilu stoi u zbiegu ulic: I Armii Wojska Polskiego i Bema. Sfinansował ją gdyński prywatny przedsiębiorca Andrzej Boczek. Jak wyjaśnił, chciał uhonorować postać jego zdaniem niedocenianą.
