Oddali cześć ofiarom Marszu Śmierci i żołnierzom I Morskiego Pułku Strzelców
By oddać cześć i pielęgnować pamięć – w Wejherowie kombatanci i władze miasta złożyli wieńce na grobach żołnierzy oraz jeńców z obozu Stutthof. Uroczystość odbyła się na starym cmentarzu komunalnym.
– Pamiętamy o nich, bo stanowią integralną część naszej tożsamości – podkreśla prezydent Wejherowa Krzysztof Hildebrandt.
Jest on zwany Wejherowskimi Powązkami, bo znajdują się tam mogiły żołnierzy Pierwszego Morskiego Pułku Strzelców, poległych podczas kampanii wrześniowej. Tam złożono też szczątki kilkunastu ofiar tragicznego marszu śmierci jeńców obozu koncentracyjnego Stutthof, który pochłonął ponad 2 tysiące istnień. Dziś Dzień Zaduszny – w kościele katolickim święto dedykowane pamięci oraz modlitwie za zmarłych, którzy w czyśćcu czekają na zbawienie.
