Naukowcy zabezpieczają szczątki wieloryba znalezionego w Stegnie
W Helu naukowcy ze Stacji Morskiej Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego zabezpieczają szczątki wieloryba znalezionego w zeszłą sobotę przy plaży w Stegnie. Na ustalenie przyczyny śmierci zwierzęcia przyjdzie nam jeszcze poczekać – nawet kilka miesięcy.
– Wyniki pierwszych badań nie dostarczyły wyczerpujących odpowiedzi na nasze pytania – mówi prof. Edward Skóra, kierownik Stacji Morskiej.
Olbrzymi ssak był samcem finwala – ważył 23 tony i mierzył ponad 17 metrów. Sekcję prowadzono od wtorku, a ustalanie przyczyny śmierci wieloryba może potrwać nawet kilka miesięcy – będzie do tego konieczna współpraca naukowców z różnych dziedzin. Obecnie naukowcy pracują nad zabezpieczeniem do dalszych badań próbek tkanek i kości wieloryba. Plac, na którym przeprowadzano sekcję ma być uprzątnięty przed weekendem. Szkielet, który ma w przyszłości być eksponatem muzealnym, zostanie przetransportowany do chłodni przy pomocy dwóch specjalnych kontenerów. Postępy przy zabezpieczaniu szczątków olbrzymiego zwierzęcia naukowcy relacjonują na facebookowym profilu Domu Morświna. Finwale bardzo rzadko zapuszczają się w wody Bałtyku.
