Już ponad 18 tysięcy uczniów uczy się języka kaszubskiego w szkołach. Według najnowszych danych liczba ta wzrosła o kolejny tysiąc na przestrzeni minionego roku. Największy wzrost odnotowano w szkołach powiatu słupskiego, lęborskiego i chojnickiego. Wśród kilkunastu szkół, które od września wprowadziły zajęcia z języka kaszubskiego są te z gminy Chojnice, Słupsk i Dębnica Kaszubska. Samorządy przyciągają do tego dodatkowe pieniądze na język kaszubski z subwencji oświatowej, a dzieci i rodziców – wycieczki i atrakcyjne zajęcia. Lekcje organizowane są na pisemny wniosek rodziców dzieci. W szkołach podstawowych i gimnazjach dyrektora zobowiązuje do tego minimum 7 takich wniosków. W szkołach średnich uczniowie sami składają podania. Od września zajęcia kaszubskiego pojawiły się w dwóch szkołach ponadgimnazjalnych w Chojnicach. W Technikum nr 3 zdecydowało się na to 90 uczniów z klas pierwszych. Co roku liczba uczniów korzystających z nauki języka kaszubskiego wzrasta o około tysiąc. W 2012 roku było to 16 tysięcy, rok temu 17 a obecnie już ponad 18 tysięcy dzieci i młodzieży.
