Będą monitorować przyrodę i badać rodzaj oraz skalę zagrożeń dla gatunków żyjących w rejonie Morza Bałtyckiego. Na innowacyjny projekt, dotyczący głównie foki szarej, Fundacja Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego wraz ze stacją morską w Helu pozyskały 2,5 mln złotych. Środki pochodzą z tak zwanego Mechanizmu Norweskiego,a projekt ma być realizowany przez 2 najbliższe lata. Głównym jego założeniem jest zakup dodatkowych urządzeń monitorujących zagrożone gatunki. Zdaniem Tomasza Żelaznego z Fundacji Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego, najbardziej zagrożone są stada foki szarej, obecnie szacowane na około 30 tysięcy osobników. W ramach projektu ma być zakupiony również specjalistyczny sprzęt do leczenia foki szarej. Projekt ma potrwać do kwietnia 2016 roku.
