„Solidarność” powinna łączyć ludzi mimo różnic – mówił prezydent Andrzej Duda w Gdańsku podczas obchodów 36 rocznicy podpisania Porozumień Sierpniowych. W historycznej Sali BHP Stoczni Gdańskiej spotkał się z przedstawicielami Zarządu Regionu NSZZ Solidarność.
W uroczystościach wzięli udział także premier Beata Szydło oraz parlamentarzyści, zabrakło natomiast pierwszego przewodniczącego Związku, Lecha Wałęsy. To do jego nieobecności nawiązywał prezydent Andrzej Duda mówiąc, że Porozumienia Sierpniowe były zwycięstwem wszystkich strajkujących, bez względu na ich dzisiejsze poglądy.
O tym że misja Solidarności jest wciąż żywa przekonywał jej obecny przewodniczący, Piotr Duda. Podkreślał, że postulaty wysuwane dzisiaj przez Związek są przedłużeniem tych z Sierpnia`80. Dwudniowe obchody Sierpnia `80 w regionie zakończyła msza święta w Bazylice św. Brygidy, którą celebrował abp. Sławoj Leszek Głódź. Podpisanie Porozumień Sierpniowych pomiędzy komitetem strajkowym a komisją rządową 1980 roku pozwoliło na zalegalizowanie Solidarności i dało początek przemianom, które doprowadziły do upadku komunizmu.
