Epizod wrześniowy (1939) – IV (Kartuski) Batalion Obrony Narodowej
Scena I – pożegnanie
31 sierpnia 1939 roku. Oddział WP (ON Kartuzy) formuje się w szereg, żegnany przez rodziny
i ludność cywilną odmaszerowuje na wyznaczone pozycje (południowy-zachód od miasta, przesmyki między jeziorami)
Komentarz: krótka historia powstania Batalionów Obrony Narodowej, Kartuski Batalion w składzie Lądowej Obrony Wybrzeża, silny związek z „ojcowizną” i miejscową społecznością.
Scena II – wybuch wojny
1 września 1939 roku. W oddali słychać wybuchy ciężkich dział (z głośników: ostrzał W-tte, Gdyni i Helu). Wybuchają dwa ładunki. W tle syreny i komunikat radiowy o wybuchu wojny (głośniki).
„Od strony Żukowa” pojawia się patrol niemiecki (motocykl). Zostaje zauważony i ostrzelany przez polskich żołnierzy. Motocykl zawraca i oddala się.
Komentarz: rozmieszczenie i kierunki ataków niemieckich od strony WM Gdańska, a także ogólny zarys planu Niemców na zajęcie „Korytarza Pomorskiego”. Krótka informacja o walkach w rejonie Borów Tucholskich.
Rys historyczny: „…1 września przed godz. 5 rano żołnierze dowiedzieli się o wybuchu wojny. Ok. godz. 5:30 nad pozycjami batalionu przeleciały niemieckie samoloty. O godz. 8:00 III pluton 2 kompanii obsadził wzgórza przy szosie Kartuzy-Przodkowo zajmując pozycje obronne pozostawione przez baon ON „Gdynia II”, który skierowano w stronę Kościerzyny. Pluton kolarzy stoczył walkę z niemieckim oddziałem rozpoznawczym, tracąc kilku zabitych i rannych…”
Scena III – walki w rejonie Somonina
3-4 września 1939 roku. Niemcy (207 Dywizja Piechoty) rozwijają natarcie na broniącą się 1 kompanię IV KBON w rejonie Somonina. Ta jednak odpiera pierwszy atak i zatrzymuje Niemców na pozycjach do rana. Następnego dnia (4 września) Niemcy ściągnąwszy posiłki ponawiają atak. Jednocześnie jednostki Landespolizei i patrole Haimwehr Danzig naciskają od strony Żukowa.
1 kompania ON pod naporem wroga stopniowo wycofuje się w stronę miasta. Wytacza działko ppanc i oddaje kilka strzałów do Niemców niszcząc ciężarówkę. O godz. 18.00 Niemcy przypuszczają zmasowany szturm na miasto, a żołnierze polscy otrzymują rozkaz wycofania się przez Grzybno w stronę Wejherowa. Niemcy, późnym popołudniem zajmują Kartuzy.
Pirotechnika: kilka wybuchów symulujących ostrzał niemieckiej artylerii, granaty.
Komentarz: 4 września na pozycje 1 kompanii w rejonie Somonina wyszło natarcie niemieckie, które odrzuciło żołnierzy na wzgórze 212 koło Kiełpina, jednak napierający żołnierze niemieccy zmusili Polaków do opuszczenia wzgórza i cofnięcia się w rejon Kartuz. Stanowiska 3 kompanii w rejonie Kartuzy-Ręboszewo zostały ostrzelane przez artylerię, a przesmyk między jeziorami Małe i Wielkie Brodno został zdobyty przez żołnierzy niemieckich. W godzinach popołudniowych batalion rozpoczął odwrót przez Grzybno-Hopy-Rybakowo do Kamienia. Po godz. 18 Niemcy rozpoczęli natarcie na Kartuzy.
Scena IV – represje
Od 5 września Niemcy realizują plan eksterminacji ludności cywilnej.
Po zajęciu miasta wojsko niemieckie wyłapuje niedobitków WP oraz ludność cywilną na podstawie list proskrypcyjnych. Pakują ich na ciężarówkę i wywożą w „nieznanym kierunku”…
Po zniknięciu ciężarówki za krzewami/drzewami w oddali słychać wystrzały z broni maszynowej.
Komentarz: Niemieckie listy proskrypcyjne, „intelligenzaction”, zbrodnie hitlerowskie w lasach kartuskich.
