W Wejherowie lokatorzy budynków socjalnych od października płacą mniej za czynsz. To część długofalowej polityki miasta, pozwalającej wyjść lokatorom z zadłużenia.
Stawki czynszu socjalnego obniżono ze 1 zł 42 gr do 50 gr za metr kwadratowy. Władze miasta liczą, że zmobilizuje to dłużników do płacenia czynszu. Od lat w Wejherowie jest też możliwość spłacania czynszu w ratach, można też odpracować dług w Wejherowskim Zarządzie Nieruchomości Komunalnych.
W Wejherowie jest 177 mieszkań socjalnych, w których zamieszkuje 377 osób. Stawki czynszu socjalnego spadną średnio z 50 do 20 zł za mieszkanie miesięcznie.
