W Gdyni przy Muzeum Emigracji stanęła makieta m/s „Batory”
W Gdyni przy Muzeum Emigracji stanęła makieta m/s „Batory” – można dosłownie dotknąć historii i zobaczyć jak wyglądał ten słynny statek.
Makieta jest wykonana z brązu w skali 1:50. Kosztowała 95 tys zł. Dzięki wsparciu miasta Gdyni i sponsorów sfinansowały ją lokalne kluby międzynarodowej organizacji Rotary – w ramach projektu „Pomóżmy Zobaczyć Świat Rękoma” M/s „Batory” od 1936 roku do wybuchu II wojny światowej przewiózł tysiące emigrantów. W czasie wojny otrzymał przydomek „Lucky Ship”. Woził głównie żołnierzy, ale najbardziej wsławił się przewiezieniem prawie pół tysiąca dzieci z Anglii do Australii, a także skarbów wawelskich oraz rezerw złota Banku Anglii do Kanady.
W Gdyni makieta „Batorego” będzie już drugą w mieście – na Nabrzeżu Pomorskim stoi już miniatura ORP „Błyskawica”. W ramach projektu „Pomóżmy Zobaczyć Świat Rękoma” Rotary postawiło już także cztery makiety w Gdańsku: kościoła mariackiego, ratusza głównego miasta,żurawia i pomnika poległych stoczniowców.
