Pytamy o pochodzenie symboli Bożego Narodzenia
Większość kultywowanych dziś na Kaszubach zwyczajów bożonarodzeniowych wcale nie pochodzi z Kaszub. O ich źródła pytamy etnograf z Muzeum Piśmiennictwa i Muzyki Kaszubsko – Pomorskiej Benitę Grzenkowicz-Ropelę.
– Pod wpływem kultury polskiej Kaszubi przejęli też karpia i sianko pod obrusem, co nigdy nie było naszym zwyczajem – podkreśla Benita Grzenkowicz-Ropela.
Najwcześniej, bo już pod koniec 19. wieku na Kaszuby z terenów niemieckich trafił zwyczaj stawiania w domach choinki, a popularny dzisiaj opłatek upowszechnił się dopiero po II wojnie światowej. Kaszubi mają też swoje zasługi w promowaniu tradycji bożonarodzeniowych. Dzięki nam zwyczaj strojenia choinki trafił do Polski. Jedynym prawdziwie ludowym kaszubskim zwyczajem, który zachował się do dzisiaj są Gwiżdże, czyli kolędnicy, którzy odwiedzają domy w wigilię Bożego Narodzenia.
