Film „Ida” w reżyserii Pawła Pawlikowskiego najlepszy na 38. Gdynia Film Festiwal. O główny laur – Złote lwy – walczyło 14 filmów fabularnych. Jurorzy przyznali też podwójne Srebrne Lwy i podwójne nagrody specjalne. Laureat Złotych Lwów to film polskiego reżysera Pawła Pawlikowskiego, który od lat tworzy i mieszka w Wielkiej Brytanii. Filmem „Ida” wrócił do Polski. Opowiada o zakonnicy, która dowiaduje się, że jest żydówką. Jej pochodzenie uświadamia jej ciotka, była stalinowska prokurator. Postać po części wzorowana na Helenie Wolińskiej. Akcja dzieje się w latach 60. Srebrnymi Lwami zostali uhonorowani ex aequo Małgorzata Szumowska za film „W imię…” oraz Maciej Pieprzyca za film „Chce się żyć”. Szumowska otrzymała również nagrodę za najlepszą reżyserię, a Pieprzyca został laureatem nagrody publiczności. Za najlepszą aktorkę została uznana Agata Kulesza, a za najlepszego aktora – Andrzej Chyra. Wydarzeniem festiwalu w Gdyni było pojawienie się Romana Polańskiego – przyjechał na pokaz swojego filmu „Wenus w futrze”.
