Gdyńska Szkoła Filmowa przeprowadza się do nowej siedziby – gmachu Gdyńskiego Centrum Filmowego przy Placu Grunwaldzkim 2. To obiekt, w który miejsce znajdą nie tylko studenci i wykładowcy. Ma być otwarty dla każdego, kto interesuje się dobrym kinem.
Filmy dyplomowe absolwentów pierwszego rocznika Gdyńskiej Filmówki otrzymały kilkadziesiąt nominacji na polskich i międzynarodowych festiwalach filmowych, zdobywając 22 nagrody. Szkoła opuszcza siedzibę w Orłowie. W trzypiętrowym budynku w centrum Gdyni są oprócz sal wykładowych i do zajęć praktycznych jest też studio dźwiękowe, pracownie fotograficzne i montażowe, biblioteka, filmoteka i klub studencki. Gmach przy Placu Grunwaldzkim ma być otwarty także dla miłośników dobrego kina. W sierpniu w Gdyńskim Centrum Filmowym ruszą pokazy w trzech salach Kina Studyjnego – maja to być kameralne seanse dla 45 widzów, a także projekcje dla stu i 230 osób. W repertuarze będzie dużo kina europejskiego, co czwartym wyświetlanym filmem ma być polska produkcja. W planach obok premier są także retrospektywne przeglądy kinematografii innych krajów, filmowe cykle tematyczne oraz pokazy filmów dokumentalnych.
Pokazy ruszą w sierpniu, choć uroczyste otwarcie Gdyńskiego Centrum Filmowego zaplanowano na niedzielę 13 września.
