Muzeum Emigracji w Gdyni zostało oficjalnie otwarte
Dokumenty, listy, pamiętniki i zdjęcia opowiadające o milionach Polakach za granicą można już oglądać w nowo otwartym Muzeum Emigracji w Gdyni. W miniony weekend odwiedzili je pierwsi goście w ramach Nocy Muzeów.
– Zależało nam, aby Polacy na emigracji nie zapomnieli o swoich korzeniach, które są nieodłącznym elementem ich tożsamości – mówił podczas otwarcia prezydent Gdyni Wojciech Szczurek.
Muzeum Emigracji powstało w symbolicznym miejscu, czyli budynku Dworca Morskiego przy ulicy Polskiej 1. To właśnie stamtąd od lat 30. 20 wieku kraj z przyczyn politycznych czy ekonomicznych opuszczało tysiące mieszkańców Polski na statkach transatlantyckich, jak choćby najbardziej znanym z nich – Batorym. Ich historię przedstawiono na nowoczesnej wystawie w wyremontowanym budynku Dworca. Muzeum Emigracji to pierwsza tego typu placówka w Polsce. Do końca maja wstęp do muzeum jest bezpłatny.
