Chodzi o sprawdzenie, kiedy i na jakich odcinkach można by w śródmieściu ograniczyć ruch samochodów, tak by nie utrudniać życia kierowcom – którzy dalej będą mile widziani w centrum miasta ale w roli pieszych i rowerzystów. W Zarządzie Dróg i Zieleni chcą wiedzieć, czy na przykład w weekendy, latem albo popołudniami fragment ulicy bądź parkingu mógłby się zamienić w deptak albo ścieżkę rowerową. Pod uwagę oprócz Świętojańskiej brana jest także Starowiejska i Aleja Jana Pawła II. Weekendowe testy to jeden z elementów unijnego projektu Civitas Dynamo, w którym obok Gdyni uczestniczą też miasta z Niemiec, Chorwacji i Hiszpanii. Badanie śródmieścia pod kątem tzw. stref pieszych to analizy, ankiety, a w sobotę i niedzielę na Świętojańskiej mają wziąć udział mieszkańcy – zachęcani by przesiąść się w weekend do transportu miejskiego lub na rower. Dla właścicieli dwóch kółek przygotowano drobne upominki. Jednocześnie kierowcy są zachęcani do korzystania z sąsiedniej ulicy Władysława IV.
