78 lat temu wybuchła II wojna światowa
Uroczystości na Westerplatte rozpoczęły się tradycyjnie o 4:45 by uczcić heroizm bohaterów kampanii wrześniowej.
Wzięła w nich udział premier Beata Szydło. Jak podkreślała: polscy żołnierze” solidarnie walczyli o wolność europejskich narodów na wszystkich frontach wojny”. W Gdańsku nie było tym razem prezydenta – Andrzej Duda wziął udział w obchodach w Wieluniu, gdzie spadły pierwsze bomby. W Muzeum II Wojny Światowej w Gdańsku otwarta dziś zostanie wystawa czasowa „Westerplatte w 7 odsłonach”. Ukazuje ona najciekawsze zabytki odnalezione w trakcie pierwszego etapu badań archeologicznych. Za pomocą 200 eksponatów pokazano w siedmiu tematycznych odsłonach dramat siedmiodniowych walk, podczas których nieliczni obrońcy Westerplatte zostali dosłownie zasypani przez Niemców tysiącami bomb i pocisków. Wystawa będzie prezentowana do 15 marca. Z jej otwarciem połączono uroczyste podpisanie porozumienia o współpracy pomiędzy Muzeum II Wojny Światowej a Muzeum Żołnierzy Wyklętych i Więźniów Politycznych PRL w Warszawie.
