777 lat temu pierwszy raz odnotowano nazwę Kaszuby
Dzisiaj świętujemy Dzień Jedności Kaszubów. Dokładnie 19 marca – 777 lat temu – po raz pierwszy w historii odnotowano nazwę Kaszuby w pisanych dokumentach. Sami Kaszubi – autochtoni między Wisłą a Odrą – mieszkają tu już od 14 wieków.
Dzień Jedności ustanowiono w 2004 roku. Przypomina o naszej bogatej historii i pochodzeniu. Więc przypomnijmy. Kaszubi to zachodniosłowiańska grupa etniczna, która osiedliła się na Pomorzu już w VI wieku po Chrystusie. W średniowieczu Kaszubi zamieszkiwali tereny od Słupska, Tczewa i Gdańska na wschodzie, po dzisiejszy niemiecki Rostok i Greiswald na zachodzie.
Nazwa Kaszuby po raz pierwszy pojawiła się w pisanych dokumentach 19 marca 1238 roku w bulli wydanej przez papieża Grzegorza IX, w której książę szczeciński Bogusław I jest tytułowany księciem Kaszub. Bulla ta potwierdzała nadanie zakonowi joannitów posiadłości koło Stargardu Szczecińskiego.
O tej historii już wczoraj uczyli się uczniowie Zespołu Szkół Publicznych nr 3 w Kościerzynie. Na ulicach wielu miast dzisiaj pojawiły się flagi kaszubskie. Tak jest między innymi w Gdańsku i Kościerzynie. Specjalne apele z okazji Dnia Jedności Kaszubów odbędą się w Szkole Podstawowej nr 7 w Chojnicach, w Szkole Podstawowej w Kaliszu, Dziemianach i Wielkim Podlesiu oraz w I LO w Kościerzynie. Zachęcamy do świętowania Dnia Jedności – choćby przez wywieszenie flagi.
