30 lat elektrowni szczytowo-pompowej „Żarnowiec”

30 lat istnieje już na Kaszubach – największa w Polsce – elektrownia szczytowo-pompowa „Żarnowiec”. Wczoraj odbyła się specjalna konferencja jubileuszowa. Budowę elektrowni rozpoczęto w 1976, a jej uruchomienie nastąpiło w 1983 roku. W początkowym okresie elektrownia miała spełniać rolę akumulatora energii dla powstającej w pobliskim Kartoszynie Elektrowni Jądrowej Żarnowiec. Górny zbiornik wodny elektrowni stanowi zbiornik Czymanowo – sztuczne jezioro o powierzchni 122 ha i pojemności 13 milionów metrów sześciennych . Zbiornik dolny stanowi natomiast Jezioro Żarnowieckie. – Elektrownia zabezpiecza energię dla 70 tysięcy gospodarstw. Jest jak akumulator w samochodzie – tłumaczy Lech Adamczewski specjalista do spraw ochrony środowiska w elektrowni. Dodajmy że turbiny uruchamiane są zdalnie z Krajowej Dyspozycji Mocy w Warszawie. A właścicielem elektrowni jest spółka PGE Energia Odnawialna S.A., która jest jednocześnie operatorem żarnowieckiej elektrowni.
