19 gmin na Kaszubach ma już podwójne tablice miejscowości, w dwóch kolejnych mają się pojawić jeszcze w tym roku. Dzisiaj mija 10 lat od przyjęcia przez Sejm ustawy umożliwiającej takie działania. Posłowie 4 listopada 2004 roku przyjęli dokument o nazwie ustawa o mniejszościach narodowych i etnicznych oraz języku regionalnym. Po poprawkach Senatu ostatecznie ustawa została zaakceptowana 6 stycznia 2005 roku. Określono w niej definicje mniejszości, według których w Polsce jest 9 mniejszości narodowych i 4 etniczne. Kaszubi po długich dyskusjach w samym środowisku kaszubskim nie zostali uznani za mniejszość a jedynie za społeczność posługującą się językiem regionalnym. Tym samym państwo polskie zobowiązało się do ochrony naszego języka. Zgodnie z ustawą mniejszości i Kaszubi otrzymali prawo do podwójnego nazewnictwa i używania swojego języka jako pomocniczego w gminach a także do pisania imion i nazwisk w swoim ojczystym języku. Język pomocniczy wprowadziły na Kaszubach gminy Parchowo, Sierakowice, Linia, Żukowo i Luzino. Podwójne tablice miejscowości stanęły w ostatnich 10 latach w 19 gminach. W 2014 roku pojawiły się w gminie Wejherowo, a na środki z Ministerstwa na ten cel czekają jeszcze gmina Karsin i Luzino.
