Wejherowska kardiologia wprowadziła nowe zabiegi – przezskórne zamykanie ubytków w przegrodach serca. Szpital specjalistyczny w Wejherowie jest trzecią placówką w województwie pomorskim stosująca tę procedurę – po Uniwersyteckim Centrum Klinicznym w Gdańsku oraz w Szpitalu Specjalistycznym na Zaspie.
Zabiegi będą wykonywane w Pracowni Radiologii Zabiegowej Oddziału Kardiologii i Angiologii Interwencyjnej Kaszubskiego Centrum Chorób Serca i Naczyń. Najczęściej ubytki w przegrodzie serca mają charakter wrodzony i są wykrywane przypadkowo podczas badania echokardiograficznego. Mogą być całkowicie bezobjawowe, ale równie dobrze mogą być przyczyną udaru mózgu. Przezskórne ich zamykanie nie wymaga otwarcia klatki piersiowej, co znacznie zmniejsza liczbę powikłań. Dodatkowo pacjent następnego dnia może być wypisany do domu. To kolejna innowacja na oddziale kardiologicznym wejherowskiego szpitala. Ostatnio uruchomiono tam zabiegi zmniejszające ryzyko wystąpienia udaru mózgu u pacjentów z migotaniem przedsionków. Dotyczy ona osób, u których nie można stosować standardowej terapii przeciwkrzepliwej lub gdy występują jej powikłania.
