Fotograficzna opowieść o losach Kaszubów i Polaków w Kanadzie
W Muzeum Emigracji w Gdyni otwarto fotograficzną wystawę o polskich i kaszubskich emigrantach w Kanadzie. Powstała z okazji 150-lecia utworzenia kraju klonowego liścia.
– Za ocean uciekali przed biedą i poborem do pruskiej armii, wyjechało ich około 20-tu tysięcy – mówi autorka wystawy, dr Michalina Petelska z Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego.
Główna fala polskiej emigracji rozpoczęła się po upadku powstania listopadowego, Kaszubi dołączyli do niej niemal 30 lat później – pierwsi osadnicy z Pomorza zaczęli docierać do prowincji Ontario w 1858 roku. Reprodukcje fotografii na wystawę udostępniła kanadyjska Polonia. Kilkanaście sprezentowali też mieszkańcy kaszubskiego Wilna w Kanadzie – można się z nich dowiedzieć m.in kim byli i czym zajmowali się ich przodkowie. Wystawa “Polacy w kanadyjskiej mozaice” w Muzeum Emigracji w Gdyni będzie otwarta do połowy grudnia. Można ją zwiedzać bezpłatnie przez cały tydzień z wyjątkiem poniedziałków.
