W kościerskim szpitalu powstało Centrum Zdrowia Psychicznego
To jedyna placówka na Pomorzu biorąca udział w pilotażowym programie testującym tzw. środowiskowy model opieki psychiatrycznej. Centrum Zdrowia Psychicznego w Kościerzynie powstało na bazie oddziału psychiatrycznego, poradni zdrowia psychicznego i zespołu leczenia środowiskowego.
Zostało powiększone o oddział dzienny psychiatryczny i punkt zgłoszeniowo-koordynacyjny. Programem objęto dorosłych mieszkańców powiatu kościerskiego, pacjenci są przyjmowani od sierpnia. W sumie jest 8 sal chorych z 30 łóżkami. Do tego 12 miejsc na oddziale dziennym, gdzie w ramach terapii można skorzystać z pomocy lekarza, psychologa i terapeuty zajęciowego. Punkt zgłoszeniowo-koordynacyjny będzie świadczył usługi w godz. 8.00-18.00. Będą też udzielane porady telefoniczne, a specjaliści będą świadczyć pomoc w miejscu zamieszkania pacjentów. W całej Polsce w pilotażu bierze udział 40 szpitali. W nowym modelu chodzi o przeciwdziałanie stygmatyzacji cierpiących na zaburzenia psychiczne przez przeniesienie opieki psychiatrycznej do środowiska lokalnego. Zakłada się, że ta zmiana da lepsze efekty terapeutyczne.
