„Bogu na chwałę-ludziom na ratunek” – to hasło strażaków w całej Polsce. Dzisiaj podczas festynów i uroczystych akademii obchodzą oni swoje święto.
Strażacy cieszą się największym zaufanie społecznym. Według badań europejskich ufa im aż 92 proc. Europejczyków. Międzynarodowy Dzień Strażaka obchodzony jest co roku 4 maja w święto ich patrona świętego Floriana. W całym kraju w Ochotniczych Strażach Pożarnych działa około 600 tysięcy osób. To oni wyjeżdżają do akcji ratunkowych podczas pożarów i wypadków. Są też często animatorami życia społecznego w małych miejscowościach. Nasz reporter Piotr Szyca rozmawiał z ochotnikami z Somonina. W Państwowej Straży Pożarnej zatrudnionych jest około 30 tysięcy funkcjonariuszy, w tym niespełna 8 proc. stanowią kobiety.
