– Rok Gryfa ustanowiono tam w związku z 800. rocznicą pojawienia się tego symbolu na pieczęci w zachowanym dokumencie historycznym, wystawionym w 1214 r. Tego symbolu używali pierwsi władcy Pomorza, od którego nazywani byli Gryfitami – mówi prezes szczecińskiego ZKP dr Ryszard Stoltmann.
Rok Gryfa obchodzą na zachodnim Pomorzu. W Szczecinie trwają poświęcone temu coroczne Dni Kaszubskie. Szczecin i Pomorze Zachodnie to stare tereny kaszubskie. W średniowieczu tam znajdowała się siedziba dynastii książąt kaszubskich Bogusławów. Dawną historię i tradycję przypomina w Szczecinie oddział Zrzeszenia Kaszubsko-Pomorskiego, który w tym roku również świętuje 20 rocznicę powstania. W ramach Dni Kaszubskich w Szczecinie na Uniwersytecie otwarto wystawę poświęconą pamięci znanego badacza historii profesora Gerarda Labudy. Dzisiaj o godzinie 16:00 na Zamku Książąt Pomorski Kaszubi zainaugurują też ekspozycję pod hasłem „Pod skrzydłami Gryfa”. A o godzinie 18:00 w Bazylice Archikatedralnej odsłonięty zostanie obelisk upamiętniający pierwszych mieszkańców Pomorza – Kaszubów.
