Gdyńscy sportowcy zrzeszeni pod jedną nazwą ARKA Gdynia
Sześć klubów, jedna nazwa. Już nie Asseco, Basket 90, Gdyńskie Towarzystwo Piłki Ręcznej czy Spójnia, a po prostu: Arka Gdynia. Do piłkarzy i rugbistów dołączyli koszykarki oraz koszykarze, a także szczypiornistki i piłkarze ręczni.
Wielką Arkę utworzą również Stowarzyszenie Inicjatywa Arka i Gdyńskie Towarzystwo Koszykówki, a także inne grupy juniorskie, w których trenują setki młodych sportowców. Gdynia może chwalić się aż siedmioma zespołami występującymi na najwyższym poziomie rozgrywkowym. Od teraz aż sześć z nich grać będzie pod sztandarem Arki Gdynia. – To historyczny dzień dla gdyńskiego sportu – podkreśla Wojciech Szczurek, prezydent Gdyni. – Łączymy siły, by w niedalekiej przyszłości osiągać jeszcze większe sukcesy niż dotychczas. Z tej okazji 30 sierpnia odbędzie się festyn „Wielkiej Arki”. Jutro od godziny 17:00 na Skwerze Arki Gdynia gdzie pojawią się wszystkie zespoły żółto-niebieskich! Natomiast 1 września piłkarze Arki Gdynia zmierzą się z beniaminkiem Lotto Ekstraklasy Zagłębiem Sosnowiec.
